Check a Bitcoin transaction or wallet history.

Every bitcoin carries a public transaction history. At size, banks, auditors and counterparties may ask about it. Provenance lets you look first.

Receiving a large deposit or OTC settlement

Assay the sending transaction or address before you accept. File the certificate with the trade.

Periodic treasury review

Assay the addresses you hold. See which outputs carry exposure and how many hops back it sits.

Source-of-funds requests

Hand a bank, auditor or counterparty a PDF certificate with a SHA-256 fingerprint, plus CSV or JSON for their analysts.

Custodian transfers, sales and restructurings

Record the history of the coins before they move, so later questions are answered from the file.

Internal records

Label transactions, outputs and addresses. Export as BIP-329 for your wallet tooling.

Explorer

Explore

Enter an address, transaction or output. Trace its inputs back toward the coinbase that minted them.

Assay

Run the same subject against the taint list. You get a fineness out of 1000, a karat figure and every exposure found.

Export a PDF with a SHA-256 fingerprint of the data, or CSV or JSON for your compliance file.

Source
Open source. The taint list (the vault) is House of Bitcoin's data and is not in the repository

It is

  • A test of one address, transaction or output against a taint list
  • A dated record you can export and hash
  • A starting point for your own review

It is not

  • A credit score. It does not rate people or entities
  • A guarantee. Results depend on the taint list's coverage
  • Legal, tax or compliance advice

FAQs

How do I verify a bitcoin address for purity?

Look it up in the explorer, then run an assay on it. You get a fineness out of 1000, a karat figure and every exposure found. Export the result as a certificate.

How do I get proof my bitcoin is not linked to illicit sources?

Export the assay as a PDF certificate with a SHA-256 fingerprint of the data. It records what was found against the taint list at that moment. It is evidence for your files and counterparties, not a guarantee.

Is this a credit score for bitcoin?

No. An assay describes the transaction history of a specific address, transaction or output. It does not rate a person or an entity.

What do fineness and karat mean?

Terms borrowed from precious metals. Fineness is a figure out of 1000, and karat is the jeweller's equivalent. Every exposure behind them is listed.

Does it send my searches anywhere?

Searches stay on your machine. The app checks for taint list updates and verifies them against their Merkle root before use.

Can it move or sign transactions?

No. It is read-only. It never creates, signs or broadcasts a transaction.

What is open source and what is not?

The application is open source. The taint list, called the vault, is House of Bitcoin's data and is not in the repository.

Is it part of Bitcoin Core?

No. It is an independent project with the same principles: open, verifiable, private.

When do I need House of Bitcoin's commercial services?

When you need deeper intelligence than the open source app provides, or analysis at volume. The app stays free either way.

Is a result legal or compliance advice?

No. It analyses public blockchain data. How you act on a result is for you and your advisers.
